Will completing SIA training help you become a police officer quicker?

Although holding a SIA license will not shorten the path to become a police officer, completing SIA training certainly will prepare you for the life of a police officer.

Skills in areas like conflict resolution, leadership, and verbal and written communication will be extremely important when it comes to working in law enforcement and having experience in the private security industry will certainly boost your CV. 

Common Skills

Police officers and private security workers have many common skills as they both take actions that limit the times when force will be necessary. Both need to be fully alert to situations and understand people’s emotions to take the appropriate steps to calm a situation. 

Also, as both roles require a lot of public contact, it is important to know what kind of presence to project in certain situations and having experience working in the security industry will definitely help you. 

Another common skill is observing and reporting. As part of your SIA training you will learn how to effectively observe a situation and how to make an appropriate detailed report afterwards which is extremely important when becoming a police officer.

Although SIA training and holding an SIA license does not shortcut your police application, completing the training and having experience in the security sector will help increase the skills necessary to operate as a police officer and make you a much more attractive candidate during the selection process.
