A CSCS Card, also known as the Construction Skills Certification Scheme is required by those who work within the construction industry, but while a career as a construction worker can last a lifetime, just how long does a CSCS card actually last for?

How long does the CSCS card last for?

How long your CSCS Card lasts depends on the type of card that you are applying for. For instance, a Green CSCS Labourer Card will have a different length of duration then the more advanced Red CSCS Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager Card, however, most CSCS Cards tend to last for five years.

When you receive your CSCS Card it will show an expiry date. It is important to remember this date as for the card to still remain valid, you will need to renew it.

How do you renew your CSCS card?

To renew your CSCS Card you will need to retake the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test. This ensures that those with a CSCS Card and working within the construction sector are kept up to date with the appropriate health and safety protocols and practices and that they are still competent in meeting the requirements in holding a CSCS Card.

You cannot apply to renew your CSCS Card until six months before your current card’s expiry date.

What is CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test?

The CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test is a 50 multiple choice question exam that is a mandatory requirement in obtaining and renewing a CSCS Card. For those who have already got a CSCS Card this test will be familiar as they would have already had to successfully pass the examination to receive their CSCS Card.

However, five years would have passed from the time they first completed the test, so a refresh may be necessary to successfully answer the questions.

Once the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test has been completed will a delegate be able to renew their CSCS card and continue working within the construction sector.
